A famous comedic play by the playwright William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Nights
Dream follows two pairs of lovers from Athens, who find themselves in a magical forest at
the summer solstice, where they encounter the faerie folk. The forest
faeries
have
problems of their own, with their king, Oberon, being rejected by his wife in an argument. .
Oberon sends the mischief-loving Puck to play tricks upon the faerie queen with the aim of
making her fall in love with him once more, and of course, the human couples are caught
up in the confusion and trickery. Meanwhile, the ruler of Athens is planning his own
wedding, to the queen of the Amazons, and is planning a great festival with theatre and
ceremony. A group of craftspeople from Athens are engaged to create a play to perform at
this wedding, and take themselves to the forest to rehearse the play - whereupon they also
encounter Puck and find themselves caught up in the faeries illusions
